Can I Get This in Another Fabric? | Custom Upholstery at Fly By Night

You’ve found the perfect sofa—but not in that shade of gray. Or maybe you need something velvet. Or washable. Or pet-proof. Maybe all three.

At Fly By Night, custom upholstery isn’t a luxury—it’s the standard. We work with vendors who build each piece your way, starting with the fabric.

Fabric isn’t just a style decision. The material you choose affects everything: durability for kids and pets, texture and breathability for comfort, the tone of your room, and how the piece holds up to sunlight and spills. It’s not about being picky—it’s about making a smart investment in a sofa that actually works in your home.

Here’s how the process works. First, choose the piece—sofa, sectional, chair, whatever suits your space. We’ll help you make sure it’s the right fit. Then, browse our curated fabric walls and sample books. We partner with trusted brands like American Leather, Younger, Flexsteel, Vilmers, CR Laine, and Norwalk—many offering hundreds of fabric or leather options. We’ll help you narrow it down without getting overwhelmed.

From there, you can choose your finishing details: arm style, seat firmness, leg finish, stitching, and toss pillows. Once you’ve made your picks, we’ll place your order. Most custom upholstery arrives in 6 to 10 weeks, and we’ll give you a realistic timeline—not a fantasy. When it’s ready, our in-house delivery team will set it up with care.

If you’re worried about stains, pets, or fading—good. That means you’re thinking practically. We’ll guide you to high-performance fabrics that are built for real life, like Crypton, InsideOut, Ultrasuede, and Revolution. These are designed to repel moisture, resist wear, and clean easily. You can even take home swatches to test in your lighting.

You might assume custom means expensive—but often, many fabric choices are included in the base price. If there’s an upgrade, we’ll show you exactly what it costs. No surprises. No sales pressure.

Some stores treat custom like a hassle. We treat it like what we do best. Our team isn’t on commission, so we focus on what fits your life, not what closes the sale. We’ve worked with these brands for years, we know how to navigate the options, and we’re upfront about timelines and follow-up. It’s what makes the process easy—and actually kind of fun.

So yes, you can get it in another fabric. And it might be easier than you think.

Come visit us in Northampton—or soon, in Maynard—and we’ll walk you through your options. You won’t ever feel stuck with off-the-rack again.
